The Facility is Open and the Road Ahead
Welp, Essers of Los Angeles is finally OFFICIALLY OPEN!
It’s definitely exciting, but it’s funny…when you strive for something for so long and finally achieve it, it almost feels normal.
Like…this was supposed to happen.
It’s been in my head for so long that I just expected it to come to this point. And as an entrepreneur, I’ve been told that once you achieve one thing, you are already thinking about the next thing, which I have found to be totally true.
So now that the facility is open, it’s time to take over the world move on to Phase 2, which is build up an incredible roster of ideal clients.
We have already had a decent amount of walk-by traffic and plenty of inquiries. If I had chosen to do a standard “gym” set-up, where everyone comes in and pays a fee with no coaching, we’d be set. But we’re aiming for something quite a bit higher here. And it will result in a more drawn-out growth, but when that growth is achieved, there will be no concern about the quality of our culture and the happiness of the staff and athletes.
For example, we require a 3x/week training frequency. That’s pretty rare. We have turned down 5 people at this point that said they could only commit to 2x/week.
The second we start letting up on our principles is the second that we fail as a business. I’m not in this to make a quick buck and cash out. I want to build something great over the long-term. And we already have plenty of people who are training 3x/week, so there is no need to dip down anyway.
Switching gears, I know I have been slow on the blog in 2015, but trust me, I’m dying to get back to it, and it’s looking like I will be able to commit again. The thing was I didn’t want to blog for the sake of blogging. You can tell when a writer is writing because he has to versus wanting to make time for it. I would rather write nothing at all than do that.
Plus, in the past year (or 8 months, really) I feel like I’ve grown into a different person.
Different meaning better haha- I don’t burn incense and talk to pigeons or anything…
The past year hands down tested me more than anything I can remember and I now feel much more mature. I was reading past blogs of mine and it was kind of embarrassing at how ridiculous I sounded in some of them, but I guess that’s what happens when you’re 23 and decide to throw your life online for the world. It’s just part of the growth process.
So you will definitely still be seeing some very entertaining writing but there will be a slightly different approach. I’m still very passionate about fitness and coaching, but I have also become really passionate about business. And therefore, a lot more of the content on here will be geared to those looking to build their business, fitness or otherwise.
There is just too much that I have learned in the past year that it would be a shame to keep it all in my head. So for current and aspiring entrepreneurs, be on the lookout.
As far as other projects, you definitely need to follow Essers of Los Angeles on social media (links directly below). We will be posting a “Strength and Conditioning Tip of the Day” as well as other cool photos/videos from the facility.

And I just discovered the Periscope app…I’m in love. Follow EssersLA on there to hear random training conversations between me and the coaches and other shenanigans.
The ELA team (me, Tilita Lutterloh, and Ryan Williams) are also diving head-first into building our online distance coaching program. This coincides with a membership site we are building for “Essers Insiders”. This will feature training and nutrition education that we don’t give out to the public. As of right now, membership is totally free!
Just go to http://esserslosangeles.com/ and find the button that says, “Become an Essers Insider”. We are working on building a free online course that goes along with sign-up, but that won’t be complete for another few weeks (you will still receive it though if you join beforehand).
In other words, we have a lot on the table upcoming for the remainder of 2015 and I’m going to be on the laptop a dangerous amount for the next few months. This is the fun stuff though now that the facility build-out is pretty much complete (just doing little projects here and there).
Thank you all for your support over the past few years! It means a lot and I hope to keep bringing you value and laughs on this site.
